Hello and thank you for checking out my Buddy Blog.

Forget about Dancing With the Stars. How about ‘dancing for a cause’ and watching the professionals strut their art this weekend. The Deborah Riley Dance Projects will perform at a Dance Place event titled “Dance & Brem.” In honor of the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer this Sunday, May 20th from 11:30am – 1:30pm at Dance Place, 3225 8th Street, N. E. Washington, DC 20017.

The Brem Foundation is committed to its mission to eliminate breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing diagnosis, treatment, research and education. Founded in 2004 through a grassroots effort dedicated to aiding the work of world-renowned radiologist Dr. Rachel Brem, the foundation has been supporting advanced technology and community outreach in the Washington, DC area. Dr. Brem is Director of the Breast Imaging and Intervention Center at George Washington University Medical Center and Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology. Dr. Brem is also a frequent guest on 9NEWS NOW discussing the importance of early detection and the latest in breast cancer news.

And… less than three weeks to the 18th annual Komen Race For the Cure on the National Mall. I hope to see you at our 9NEWS NOW broadcast site on Saturday June 2nd. Come by and say hello to me, Mike, Kim and our special guest for the morning, CBS News Anchor Katie Couric. We’ll be on hand to cheer on the walkers & runners and welcome them at the finish line. If you haven’t registered, what are you waiting for? Check out the link to register on WUSA9.com.

Also on my website, you can see the story of survivor & artist Joni Relyea. Over the years, Joni has donated her beautiful flower art paintings to several cancer organizations for fundraisers. This year, Joni’s blossom covered umbrella will be given at the Komen Race For the Cure to the best dressed survivor crossing the finish line. She is really excited about this honor.

If you’d like to purchase one of Joni’s umbrellas her new address is: First Bloom Collection, 5423 Quinn Lane Woodbridge, Va. 22193. A portion of the proceeds will go to Komen For the Cure. .

And this reminder, on Thursday, May 17th. watch 9 NEWS NOW @ 5am for a feature on the latest NIH study on a new, early predictor of Lymphedema, swelling in the arm after cancer surgery.
