TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA) -- A pedestrian has been pronounced dead at a local hospital after a serious overnight accident in Temple Hills.

Sgt. David Schlosser, spokesperson for the U.S. Park Police, says the accident occurred around 2:27 Wednesday morning when two Secret Service vehicles struck a man on Suitland Parkway at Naylor Road.  Schlosser says the victim was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Wednesday morning.

The westbound lanes of Suitland Parkway as well as the southbound lanes of Naylor Road were shut down at Branch Avenue for hours while an accident reconstruction team investigated the incident.  All roadways reopened before 7:00 a.m.

Malcolm Wiley, spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, says the two automobiles involved in the accident were armored Secret Service vehicles that were traveling between Andrews Air Force Base and the Secret Service garage in DC.

According to Wiley, only Secret Service employees were involved in the accident.  No protectees were inside the vehicles.

All of the Secret Service vehicles that were traveling together stopped and employees rendered first aid to the victim.  Wiley says the Secret Service members remained on the scene throughout the investigation.

Wiley says the armored vehicles had just returned from a trip to Fort Lewis, Washington, where they were used to transport the Vice President Joe Biden. Wiley says the vehicles were taken via military aircraft between Andrews Air Force Base and Fort Lewis per Secret Service protocol.  According to Wiley, Secret Service armored vehicles always arrive at a location ahead of the President or Vice President so they are ready for use as soon as Air Force One or Two arrives.
