GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- Police in Montgomery County are investigating an overnight officer-involved shooting in Germantown.
Lucille Baur, spokesperson for Montgomery County Police, tells 9NEWS NOW the Montgomery County Police responded to the 12200 block of Eagles Nest Court after receiving a 911 disconnect call from that location around 2:40 a.m.
Baur says two shots were fired by at least one or both of the officers that responded to the scene. She says 39-year-old Eliodoro Hernandez was found dead at the scene with a BB/Pellet Repeater Air Pistol and a carving knife at his side. Baur says the BB gun is a replica of a semi-automatic weapon. She says it is unclear whether or not the man fired his weapon.
Baur says the officers called for assistance around 3 a.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and found the officers trying to revive the subject.
Officer Jesse Dickensheets has been with the department for five years. Baur says one of the two shots he fired, killed Hernandez. Officer Ana Hester did not fire her weapon.
In accordance with standard procedure, both officers have been placed on Critical Administrative Leave with pay.
Baur says the investigation has begun to determine what events occurred that lead to the shots being fired.
