Backhoe causes gas leak in Clarksburg

CLARKSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- A natural gas leak has been reported in Clarksburg on Tuesday morning after a backhoe struck a feeder line.

According to Montgomery County fire spokesperson Pete Piringer, the leak is located in the 23600 block of Overlook Park, where a backhoe struck an 8-inch gas line around 11:15 a.m.

Workers were able to reduce the pressure and stop the leak, Piringer says.

Streets were blocked or closed, and some evacuations were expected in the residential community that's under development.
