WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - We issued a Yellow Alert for Friday as a cold front moves through with scattered showers and some pockets of heavier rain. Temperatures will continue to fall this afternoon, into the upper 40s by dinnertime.
After a colder and mainly dry Saturday, a storm will approach from the south early on Sunday morning. Cold air will be in place near the ground, leading to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain through Sunday afternoon. The mix will eventually change to rain from SE to NW by evening in DC and points south & east, and during Sunday night for the northern and western suburbs. Both the Redskins and Ravens have home games on Sunday. You can watch the Redskins game right here on WUSA 9 at 1 PM as they host the Kansas City Chiefs. Allow yourself plenty of extra travel time if you are heading to either stadium on Sunday. We have issued a Red Alert for Sunday because of the wintry mix and the possibility of icing.
The BB & T Classic is also being played at the Verizon Center Sunday.
