WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Red Alert for Sunday, Yellow Alert on Monday in the First Alert Weather Center. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10am Monday for I-95 and points west. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the District and for all counties east of I-95, including Southern Maryland and the Northern Neck of Virginia.
The mix will change to rain in southern Maryland in the late afternoon or evening but elsewhere the surface temperatures remain at or below freezing, allowing ice to accumulate on trees and power lines. Be careful walking around. Temps could remain below freezing from DC, N & W all of Sunday night and even into Monday morning.
We are concerned about major icing tonight north and west of DC overnight as the sleet turns to moderate freezing rain.
Both the Redskins and Ravens have home games on Sunday. You can watch the Redskins game right here on WUSA 9 at 1 PM as they host the Kansas City Chiefs. Allow yourself plenty of extra travel time if you are heading to either stadium on Sunday. We have issued a Red Alert for Sunday because of the wintry mix and the possibility of icing.
The BB & T Classic is also being played at the Verizon Center Sunday.
