Gray picked up nominating petitions at the D.C. Board of Elections on Monday. He now has a month to collect 2,000 signatures to get his name on the ballot.

The mayor faces a long list of Democratic candidates for mayor:

    • Councilwoman Muriel Bowser
    • Businessman Christian Carter
    • Nestor Djonkam
    • Councilman Jack Evans
    • Reta Jo Lewis, a former state department official
    • At-Large District Councilman Vincent Orange
    • Frank Sewell
    • Andy Shallal, who owns Busboys and Poets.
    • Octavia Wells
    • and Councilman Tommy Wells.

There is one only Republican running for mayor, James Caviness, and one Libertarian -- Bruce Majors.

Questions remain about Gray's 2010 campaign, which has been the focus of a federal investigation for nearly three years. Four people who worked on the campaign have pleaded guilty to felonies.
