WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A man died after he was shot in the area of A Street and 34th Street SE on Thursday night, according to Metropolitan Police Department officials.
Police say they were called at 8:11 p.m. for the report of a shooting in the area and arrived to find the man with a gun shot wound who was unresponsive.
He suffered serious, life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to police. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police have identified the victim as 28-year-old Kevin Lucas.
Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide but do not have any suspects yet.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, police responded to another shooting in Southeast. Officials say a woman was shot in the upper body in the 4900 block of G Street SE. Police say she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police have identified the victim as 21-year-old Rokeida Spriggs.
Officer Araz Alali with D.C. police says these two homicides bring the total number of murders for D.C. in 2013 to 96. There were 78 homicides in the District through Nov. 22 last year. There were a total of 88 in 2012.
