MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) - Prince William County Police say they have identified the driver of a van that struck a 5-year-old boy. They have only said the driver is a 70-year-old man from Manassas Park.
The boy's mother took him out of her car on Rainwater Circle on Wednesday evening, but the boy spotted a relative and ran across the street. That's when police say the boy was hit by a white Ford E350 series commercial-style van with a dent on the front left bumper.
The driver of the van didn't remain on the scene, but police said on Thursday that the driver may not have been aware that he had struck the child.
In a press release on Thursday, police wrote: "The vehicle's size, the child's size, time of day, and what the child was wearing at the time of the crash were considered. After consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, charges will not be placed in this crash."
Police say the boy was flown to an area hospital. Thursday, police say the boy was treated and released from the hospital.
