ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- An Alexandria woman has won $100,000 in the Virginia lottery, four hours before the ticket was to expire, officials said.
On October 29, Karen Gentry saw a TV news report that a Virginia Cash 5 ticket was worth $100,000. For almost six months, that ticket had been sitting in a box in her kitchen.
"So I looked, and there it was!" she told Lottery officials. "I called my husband and he said, 'Yeah, right.'"
Gentry works in carpet sales and she said she has no immediate plans on what she will be doing with her winnings, officials said.
The ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven located on the 5834 North King's Highway in Alexandria.
