WALDORF, Md. (WUSA9) -- Authorities say a driver admitted that she was texting before her car went into a lake near St. Thomas Drive at St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf on Tuesday afternoon.
The driver told police she was texting when she ran off a road, struck a tree and was propelled into Wakefield Lake, according to authorities. She was able to escape the car through a window. Authorities say she was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
The woman was driving north on St. Charles Parkway just past St. Thomas Drive at about 12:25 p.m. Tuesday when she left the road, according to Charles County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Diane Richardson. The woman's car traveled 50 or 60 feet into the lake in about 5 feet of water, Richardson said.
Police say charges are pending.
