LONGMONT (KUSA) -- An 18-year-old woman was killed after being shot at a Longmont home Friday night.
Police believe Premila Lal was hiding a closet and jumped out at Nerrik Galley just before being shot at a home in the 2500 block of Cambridge Drive.
Her father, Praveen Lal, says Pramilla and her 12-year-old cousin were on their way to Longmont High School for a football game Friday night when they decided to stop by their Uncle's house to see Galley and Pramilla's brother. He says they snuck in the house and intended to scare Galley, instead they were mistaken for intruders.
"Maybe an intruder they came upstairs my son went in the master bedroom on the left side. Went into the room nobody was there and the closet door opens and hear a scream he turns around and he shoots her before realizing it was Pramilla," Praveen Lal said.
Lal was transported to Longmont United Hospital where she died.
Police have identified the shooter, as 21-year-old Nerrek Galley. He was arrested on unrelated charges, for providing a handgun to a minor. Galley faces charges of child abuse and reckless endangerment.
He's being held at the Boulder County jail.
Family members say they are mourning the death of their daughter along with the arrest of a close family friend.
Galley is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
