(WUSA9) -- Police say that a loss prevention officer at an Office Depot spotted a man leaving with stolen merchandise and followed him, only to be robbed himself. That man, however, was later caught by a police man who saw the robbery, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
Police tell us that on Tuesday at approximately 12:14 p.m., Detective Joseph Goldberg saw a man being robbed by another man in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. According to police, Detective Goldberg saw a man shove a 51-year-old man into the road and then take the 51-year-old man's cell phone.
Police say the detective ran after the robber until other officers arrived to take the robber into custody in the woods near Ritchie Highway and Wellham Avenue. The detective suffered a minor leg injury during the chase, police tell us.
Twenty-six-year-old Deshawn Quinton Johnson of Brooklyn, Md. was charged with Robbery, Theft, Resisting Arrest and Reckless Endangerment. Police say that Johnson left the Office Depot at 6623 Ritchie Highway with stolen merchandise. A 51-year-old loss prevention officer followed Johnson to the corner of Ritchie Highway North and confronted him, say police. Police say the loss prevention officer started to call 911 when Johnson shoved him into the road and took his cell phone.
