WASHINGTON (WUSA) - Residents at an assisted living facility were met with a rude awakening when a small fire broke out in one of the units early this morning.
DC Fire crews were called to Forest Side Assisted Living shortly before 4:00 Wednesday morning to handle a blaze in 2nd floor apartment. Crews were able to quickly bring the flames under control. According to Metropolitan Police, one person was rescued but not injured. All other residents were able to take shelter in their homes.
According to Forest Side's website, the facility provides residential options to those with dementia, Alzheimer's or cognitive impairment who require around the clock care.
Military Road was blocked by the fire response between 27th and 29th Streets until just after 5:00 a.m. Police say no one was displaced by the fire.
