PASADENA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County police arrested and charged a man they say was angry at his girlfriend's dog and shot it, killing it.
Police say officers were called to a home on Saturday at approximately 9:22 p.m. in the 700 block of 224th Street in Pasadena for a report of shots fired. Officers en route to the scene were told that a man had just shot the caller's dog, according to police.
The caller told them she didn't know if the man was still in the home or the condition of her dog, say police. Officers later found a man in the front yard and he was taken into custody. Police say when they searched the home they found a small, mixed breed dog in the kitchen dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers later determined the man and the caller were boyfriend and girlfriend. Police say the dog was recently adopted. When the dog nipped at man, he became enraged and retrieved a handgun, say police. According to police, the girlfriend tried to the dog and leave with it, but the man chased the dog into the kitchen and shot it.
Police say 33-year-old Clint Matthew Mowry of Pasadena was charged with Cruelty to Animals and Reckless Endangerment.
