CALVERT, Md. (WUSA9) -- Route 4 at Mt. Harmony Road was shut down for a while after a car struck a metal power line support pole on Wednesday morning. The driver of the car was flown from the scene and is in critical condition, according to officials.
SMECO asked police to keep the road closed for safety reasons, we are told. SMECO official expected the road to be closed for 8 to 10 hours, but police told us around 10 a.m. that they were delaying the closure.
Police now say Route 4 northbound at Mt. Harmony Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday. They are encouraging drivers to take Route 2 northbound to Route 260. The road will be closed for 8 hours, say police.
