MARLOW HEIGHTS, Md. (WUSA9) -- All lanes of the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway have reopened near Branch Avenue after a deadly early morning crash involving two vehicles and two motorcycles.
Maryland State Police say the vehicles and motorcycles collided on southbound I-495 before Branch Avenue around 12:35 a.m. Both motorcycle drivers were transported to a local hospital where one of them was pronounced dead. The second victim suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.
An accident reconstruction team responded to the scene to investigate the incident, effectively shutting down all lanes of the Inner Loop for more than 5 hours. Police diverted traffic onto Allentown Rd. during the closure, however, traffic stacked up during the early morning rush.
Right now police are not releasing the identity of the deceased motorcycle rider, pending notification of next of kin.
