WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) -- The once popular telephone land line may soon be extinct, according to one industry group.

It's expected that just 25 percent of homes will have a land line by the end of this year as more people switch to cell phone and Internet service to make calls.

AT&T wants to do away with its copper network by the end of this decade.

It appears those copper wires have become too expensive to replace.
