7-year-old Kyle Aldridge dies In Annapolis Md. July 4th parade

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Annapolis police say a seven-year-old boy who died after an accident at the Annapolis 4th of July Parade had gotten off a van's trailer, fell to the ground, and was hit by a tire.

Police say that seven-year-old Kyle Aldridge was riding on the side of a trailer pulled by a GMC van on Amos Garrett Boulevard approaching West St at 7:11 p.m. The van was driven by his grandfather, say police. Aldridge is beleved to have gotten off the trailer while the van was in motion.

Aldridge was severely injured in the accident and was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center. He died there from his injuries, say police.

According to police, they do not believe driver error, drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Ofc. David Higgins with the Traffic Safety Unit at 410-268-9000.

Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen issued a statement after meeting with the family at the hospital Thursday night, say police. The statement reads: "It's an unbelievably tragic accident. Our entire community's thoughts and prayers are with the family."
