GARRETT PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two men died in a tragic late-night incident on a stretch of CSX railroad tracks in Garrett Park, MD. Montgomery County Police have now identified them as 20-year-old Elvin Rojas and 19-year-old Alejandro Uribe, both of Wheaton.
Montgomery County Police officials say they received a report of a pedestrian struck by a CSX train near the Garrett Park MARC station around 11:10 Wednesday night. Officers responded to the scene and began to seek out the train conductor while searching for the reported victim. Crews eventually discovered two deceased men at the scene and investigators were requested to respond.
The investigation lasted well into the early morning hours, however, MCP cleared the scene around 4:10 a.m. Police now say that the train conductor saw the two men and applied the train brakes. They say the conductor also sounded the horn several times before the train hit the men.
Police say they are investigating the deaths as accidental.
