(WUSA9) -- The Glen Echo Heights Citizens Association said in an email on Tuesday night that a woman spotted a bear on her back deck. The email included photos she took of the bear (see above).

The citizens association encouraged residents, "If you hear something in your trash cans, DON'T go outside, just look through a window."

The citizens association said it would check to make sure that animal control was notified about the incident.

We have had several bear sightings in Maryland and Virginia recently. We told you Tuesday night about bear sightings in Tysons Corner.  Fairfax County Police took in several reports of bear sightings in McLean and Vienna on Monday. A similar bear encounter happened last week in Gaithersburg, Md.

Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell says it's not unusual to see bears in Fairfax County this time of year. She says they are young bears looking for food and moving great distances.
Fairfax County says it's not their policy to remove bears unless they are sick or injured, or are posing a public threat.
