WEST LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Some drivers in Maryland are facing a difficult commute due to early morning fatal wrecks on two major Maryland thoroughfares.

The most recent crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. when Maryland State Police say it appears that a red vehicle was traveling on northbound I-95 when it crossed the median into the southbound lanes. It was hit by the tanker near the ICC overpass (Rt. 200).  A second vehicle that appears to also have been involved in the crash came to rest in the grassy median.

State police officials confirm one person was killed inside the red vehicle but they say no other injuries were reported.

Maryland State Police are on scene directing traffic around the wreckage. We are told three right lanes are open but one lane is still blocked approximately 100 yards south.

Police believe the investigation will likely cause the closures to last well into the early morning rush.

Around 2:45 a.m., a single vehicle overturned in the northbound lanes of the Baltimore Washington Parkway in Jessup, killing the driver. The crash scene blocked all northbound lanes of the Parkway at Route 175. Maryland State Police recently cleared that crash scene and reopened the lanes around 4:30 a.m.
