WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Jimmy Smith, an NBA beat reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, is reporting the Cleveland Cavaliers are likely to choose Alex Len in next Thursday's NBA Draft.
The Cavs hold the number one overall pick after winning the NBA draft lottery and are in desperate need of a big man. Nerlens Noel, center from Kentucky, had been the consensus top pick over the past month.
Len, who declared for the draft after his sophomore year, averaged 11.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest. The 7-foot-1 Ukraine native had ankle surgery performed shortly after entering the draft. He is expected to miss 4-6 months.
Keep in mind there are lots of smoke screens generated in the week leading up to the draft. But even so, this makes next Thursday's event in New York City all the more intriguing.
