COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- A contract worker for the Maryland State Highway Administration was killed on Tuesday night when he was struck by a car.
According to police, the man was working for Road Safety Traffic Control Company LLC in lane two of westbound Md. Rt. 216 at MD Rt. 29 at approximately 9:22 p.m. They say he was wearing his reflective shirt and was placing cones to close the lane when the driver of a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu struck him.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene, say police. His identity is not being revealed until authorities can notify his next of kin.
Westbound Md. Rt. 216 was closed for approximately two hours.
