CHEVY CHASE, Md. (WUSA9) -- The body of Joshua Davis, 15, was found in Rock Creek Stream Valley in Chevy Chase Tuesday afternoon, police said.
A neighbor of Davis said the teen's father went looking for his son Tuesday after his son did not come home Monday night. He found his son's body on a trail near his bike. The boy had apparently been riding his bike when an old, dead tree fell on him sometime Monday and killed him.
The freak accident happened in the woods off a park near the 9200 block of Jones Mill Road in Chevy Chase.
Joshua Davis was reported missing Monday night but search efforts during the night time were not successful.
His father found his body around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and called rescuers to the scene.
Polcie say Monday's storms may have been a factor in Davis' death. No foul play is suspected.
"I was told that he had been missing and the father went out looking for him and that's all I know. I don't know times. I don't know details," Steve Koenig, the boy's next door neighbor said.
Sam Alston was a good friend of the teen. They used to bike together in the same trails and he came to see the place his friend was killed.
"I'm angry," he said. "My friend died and it just feels good to come down here."
The Director of Montgomery County Department of Parks said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by last night's tragic accident in Rock Creek Park Stream Valley #2 claiming the life of a young boy riding his bicycle in the park. Our thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and friends. Our park police officers are continuing to work closely with the county police to investigate this very sad incident."
