WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The scandal bubbling over at the IRS is really a story of unchecked power and the apparent abuse of it.
The internal revenue service is one of the most powerful agencies in government with almost unlimited authority to take your money. The only reason we patriotic Americans put up with that is we've bought into the idea that the process is at least mostly fair.
But if that power can be hijacked by politics and conservative Tea Party groups targeted, Well, That should scare everyone, because what happens when the other guys take over?
That's why President Obama minced no words yesterday in describing his outrage about the whole situation which is a good start, but solves nothing.
Who knew about the partisan targeting and how long have they known it? The GOP wants a special prosecutor.
I say bring it on. At this point America needs real closure on how this could have happened and the White House just needs to get out of the way.
Because lets' be real: nobody in their right mind loves the IRS.
Unless you tried to claim your cat as a dependant, you shouldn't be afraid of it either.
