Fire Officials: Apartment Did Not Have Working Smoke Alarm

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Fire officials say the unit that caught fire in a condominium building on Monday did not have a working smoke alarm. Now, 7 people are without a home, say officials.

According to fire officials, firefighters responded to a fire on Monday at approximately 9:50 a.m. at 2840 Annandale Road in the James Lee Condominium complex in the Falls Church area. Firefighter discovered heavy smoke and fire coming from the terrace level and were able to extinguish the fire in approximately 10 minutes, say officials.

The people inside the home were able to escape before firefighters arrived and were not injured, say officials.

One firefighter was transported in INOVA Fairfax Hospital with a non-life threatening injury, according to fire officials.

Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire, which resulted in approximately $75,000 worth of damage.
