ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A Manassas woman was sentenced to more than a year in prison after illegally selling 31 handguns, say officials.
Forty-four-year-old Kimberly Yvette Dinkins was sentenced to 18 months in prison for dealing firearms without a license. Her time in prison will be followed by two years of supervised release, says Neil H. MacBride, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
According to documents, Dinkins purchased the 31 firearms on three consecutive weekends from Nov. 17 through Dec. 1, 2012 at three separate gun shows in Chantilly, Richmond, and Hampton, Va. Dinkins purchased the handguns with the intention of selling them.
Documents show that the firearms sold by Dinkins were recovered from juveniles and felons who used the handguns during drug trafficking schemes. One of those incidents was on Nov. 30, 2012, when Prince George's County, Md. officers recovered a handgun from a 20-year-old Maryland man during the course of a narcotics investigation. In another narcotics investigation, a 19-year-old Maryland man was caught with a handgun sold by Dinkins on Dec. 12, 2012. Both men in these cases pleaded guilty to possession of firearms-related charges in Maryland state court.
