MIDDLETOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- Maryland State Police honor long-time volunteer and former employee with the title of "Honorary Trooper".
Mr. A. Eugene Appleby, 91 of Middletown, retired in 1985 as a Police Communications Operator after 40 years of service.
His nickname is "Junior", a WWII veteran, was well respected due to his devotion to the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack. After his retirement, he volunteered for the Frederick Barrack for 27 years. He has over 5,000 hours of volunteer service.
"The Maryland State Police is forever grateful for Mr. Appleby's service to the Department and it is a great honor and privilege to award him the title of Honorary Maryland State Trooper" - Lt. Todd E. May, Commander, Frederick Barrack said in a press release.
