Students from Harriet Tubman Elementary School pose with coaches Simon Landau and Lauren Weissbrod.
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- On the turf field of Harriet Tubman Elementary School in Columbia Heights students run around a soccer field and play the world's beautiful game with an enthusiasm that infects all coaches, parents and on-lookers. None of this would be possible without DC Scores, which provides after-school programs for low-income youth in Washington.
Thursday, DC Scores is announcing its two-year partnership with District Sports, the largest provider of recreational soccer leagues in the Washington area. District Sports will officially be sponsoring the DC Scores team at Tubman Elementary School.
A check presentation will take place Thursday afternoon at Tubman Elementary School. The executive director of DC Scores Alex Bearman will present DC Scores with a $30,000 check to support programming at the school for two years. Both school and DC government officials will be present. It is encouraged for all to attend the event.
"DC SCORES is without question a force for good in our community" said Alex Bearman, Executive Director of District Sports. "We are continually impressed by the positive impact they are having in the DC schools - including some of the locations where we are pleased to play our league games."
