Emergency crews at the scene of I-95 N accident in Stafford County
QUANTICO, Va. (WUSA9) -- Virginia State Police now say there were three crashes within minutes of each other on Interstate 95 in Stafford County near Exit 148/Quantico.
A spokeperson says at approximately 5:45 a.m. traffic was stopped northbound when a station wagon failed to stop in time and hit the back of a Honda. A Harley-Davidson motorcycle then struck the back of the station wagon, according to the spokesperson. The impact sent the motorcycle into another lane and the motorcyclist was through in the opposite direction, says the spokesperson. The motorcyclist hit a tractor trailer.
Vehicles tried to avoid hitting the actual motorcycle which then caused a three-car chain-reaction crash, according to the spokesperson.
Only the motorcyclist was injured in the crashes. He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries, says the spokesperson.
The driver of the station wagon was identified as 47-year-old Sandra T Wilson of Ruther Glen, Va., say state police. She was charged with following too closely.
