ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Friends and family released balloons at Rockville High School, in memory of Michelle Miller.
Her father spoke at the makeshift memorial service for the slain 17-year-old senior, "Life's never going to be the same for me. My life's torn apart."
Police believe Staff Sgt. Adam Ardnt, a military recruiter, shot Miller in the head before killing himself at his Germantown home Sunday night. Her father says she went over because Ardnt seemed suicidal. Police still have not released a motive.
Her grandmother wants the honors student and star athlete, who had dreamed of helping troubled vets, to have a full military funeral with honors.
"I think she's a hero because she gave her life trying to save someone else's," Alice Miller said.
