ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Police were involved in a shooting on Tuesday.
Officers responded to the 6600 block Thurlton Dr. at about 4 p.m. after reports of a man threatening to commit suicide, The Fairfax County Police spokesperson said.
According to the preliminary investigation, when officers arrived on the scene, the individual displayed what appeared to be a weapon in a threatening manner and was subsequently shot, police said.
At some point, the 37-year-old man was shot by police and at least one officer proceeded to perform CPR until Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived, police said.
The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injures and is in critical condition.
"The officers involved in this incident will be placed on routine administrative leave as the department begins parallel criminal and administrative investigations," police said in a press release.
