ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County fire officials say crews fought two fires in Ellicott City on Sunday night.
The first fire in the 3000 block of Mullineaux Lane was reported just before 10 p.m. Sunday, according to officials. Three people were home at the time, but two of them self-evacuated after smoke alarms sounded, say officials. Crews later found a third person inside and requested that he evacuate, which he did.
One firefighter sustained a minor hand injury while putting out the blaze, say officials. The fire was brought under control at approximately 10:40 p.m., say authorities.
The home has been posted as unsafe and officials say that the prelimary damage estimate is $265,000.
Officials say the Red Cross is helping the three residents who were displaced.
The second fire a short time later at The Columbia Connextion in the 3200 block of Corporate Court was reported by a passerby, say officials. It took firefighters roughly 15 minutes to get the fire under control and no one was injured, according to officials.
The preliminary damage estimate is $200,000, say officials.
