(USA TODAY) -- Is this the day the Facebook smartphone shifts from rumor to reality? Let's take a look at the stocks to watch on Thursday.
Facebook shares up early. The social network's stock price is up 1% in pre-market trading as it gets ready to reveal news from an Android-themed event at its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters.
The latest rumor on today's event stems from Bloomberg, reporting Facebook will introduce a modified version of the Android operating system with a strong emphasis on the social network's tools. It's an approach similar to what Amazon employs with its line of Kindle Fire tablets.
The big question is whether Facebook itself will create the hardware or partner with a smartphone manufacturer. All signs appear to point to HTC, who has worked with the company in the past on the HTC Status device that featured a built-in Facebook button for sharing.
