ACCOMACK, Va. (WUSA9) -- A former volunteer firefighter and his girlfriend were arrested in connection to 79 arsons in Accomack County over the past five months.

"Tonya S. Bundick, 40, and Charles R. Smith III, 38, were taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop just after midnight Tuesday morning near an arson set at a vacant residence on Airport Drive in Melfa," police said.

The mini man that was pulled over, was wanted in connection to an arson fire on Monday at around 11:40 p.m. The Melfa Volunteer Fire Department was able to put that fire out quickly, police said.

Bundick and Smith have not been connected to all of those fires. However, police are holding them, without bond at the Accomack County Jail and are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The pair have been charged with one felony count of arson and one felony count conspiracy to commit arson. Additional charges for the remaining fires are expected, police said.

Bundick and Smith live with two teens, in Parksley, a small community where the first of 77 deliberately set fires was lit.
