WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- According to TSA officials, a man with a ticket to fly from Reagan National Airport to Montreal was stopped on Monday morning after a TSA officer found a loaded gun in the passenger's carry-on bag at the checkpoint.
The Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police confiscated the weapon and ammunition, a .40 caliber handgun loaded with five rounds with one bullet chambered, officials say.
Airport officials say the man, who was from Stafford, Va., was cited on a local weapons charge and allowed to catch his flight to Montreal, minus the gun and ammunition.
TSA officials say the man had a Virginia concealed weapons permit and claimed that he forgot the firearm was in his carry-on bag.
Passengers are allowed to travel with a firearm, but there are very strict guidelines. Find the regulations on TSA's website.
