WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Residents of a three-story apartment complex had to be rescued from their windows during a fire on Sunday.
According to the DC Fire Dept., crews were called out to the apartment complex on 1341 Peabody St. in Northwest at about 1:41 p.m. for reports of people trapped in a fire.
Tweets from the DC Fire Fighters L36 Union, stated that people were hanging from windows when fire crews arrived.
Fire fighters were able to safely rescue all the residents and have knocked down the fire, officials said.
Crews report the fire originated from the basement but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
EMS is tending to the rescued residents.
