STERLING, Va. (WUSA9) -- American Airlines Flight 1589 made an emergency landing in Dulles after the plane's first officer fell ill on board.
According to American Airlines spokesperson Kent Powell, the Dallas-bound plane landed Saturday morning shortly after departing from Newark.
The plane landed safely and the 141 passengers on the flight boarded another aircraft scheduled to depart at around 2 p.m., Powell said.
He added that paramedics transported the first officer to a local hospital with what may be appendicitis.
The aircraft also landed overweight and was taken out-of-service, Powell said.
