WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- You may have been startled or even scared by ads for one of the big movies opening Friday. Olympus Has Fallen tells the story of an attack on the White House.
We talked to the director and some of the stars of the film when they came to town for a screening of the movie (see full interviews attached to this story)
Gerard Butler stars as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, who's been taken off the presidential detail after a bad accident. But when Agent Banning witnesses an attack on the White House from his desk assignment a few blocks away, he runs towards the danger.
As terrorists gun down waves of his fellow agents, Banning works his way into the besieged White House where the President, played by Aaron Eckhart, is being held hostage in an underground bunker.
This film is not for the faint of heart. There are many violent deaths, including executions, shown close up. But the actors say they felt the audience get into the plot at the first D.C. screening of the film.
Morgan Freeman plays the House Speaker who assumes the Presidency in this crisis. Angela Bassett ended up with a role originally written for a male actor. She plays the director of the Secret Service.
