Rockville Red Light Camera Tickets increased significantly in 2012.
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Drivers hate them, but the District is making a bundle on them: red light cameras.
The Washington Post reports that a record number of tickets were doled out in fiscal 2012 by intersection cameras: more than 91,000 of them. That number is up almost 14,000 over the previous year.
AAA obtained the numbers through a Freedom of Information Act request. The District took in almost $13 million from red-light cameras last year -- up almost $2 million from 2011.
