ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA9) -- Three girls were struck by a 15-year-old driver who was receiving driving lessons from a parent, officials say.

The victims were struck in the 2300 block of Morven Woods Court on Thursday at about 6:45 p.m., when the teen mistakenly accelerated and jumped the curb onto the sidewalk where the three girls were playing, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital in critical condition. The other two victims, eight and 10 years of age, were transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital with non-life threatening injures, deputies said.

The crash is under investigation.
