(USA TODAY) -- Dennis Rodman hasn't been relevant in more than a decade. You didn't really expect him to fade away after the burst of publicity that accompanied his controversial trip to North Korea, did you?

Kim Jong Un's "friend for life" is back in the news after telling a Fargo, N.D. news station that he plans to return to North Korea in August to vacation with the country's dear leader.

Rodman didn't say what he has planned with his unlikely companion. Maybe golf in the morning (they'll card matching 51s) and then some tours of prison camps?

The basketball Hall of Famer sounded less stable than usual in his interview with KXJB, so who knows whether he's actually returning or if this was a slip of the tongue, like when he referred to Kim as "the king."

Kim, of course, is not a "king." He just acts that way. To make such a confusing error would be like me claiming I'm best friends with Obama before calling him "the prime minister. (Rodman may have been saying "the Kim," which would odd in a different way.)

The interview inquired about how Rodman can reconcile his friendship with Kim's notorious reputation. Easy, he doesn't!

"I don't condone what he does," Rodman told Fargo's KXJB, "but he's my friend."

That's probably what was going through Al Cowlings' mind too.

We've all had a lot of fun with the Rodman-Kim meeting at the basketball game earlier this month. They play basketball with weird rules! The craziest basketball player ever is drinking with a dictator! He wore a pink cravat while toasting him! But nothing about Kim and the way his family has ruled North Korea is funny. Rodman trivializes the country's problems.

You know the old proverb about children being seen, not heard. Overgrown children with tattoos and lip rings should be neither.
