VIENNA, Va. (WUSA9) -- If some Virginia lawmakers get their way, Metro Rail could run to Centreville, Woodbridge and through Fort Belvoir into Prince William County someday.

Congressmen Jim Moran and Gerry Connolly's bill would authorize a study to extend the Orange, Blue and Yellow lines in Virginia.

Such an extension would be music to the ears of thousands of commuters who endure packed Metro trains almost every day. Imagine hopping on the metro and getting off just minutes from home or work? The current end of the Orange Line is in Vienna.

Connolly says it took 47 years to get the Silver Line to Dulles under construction and he doesn't think it should take that long for I-66 or 95.

Congressman Moran, who is co-sponsoring the bill, says that for every dollar invested in public transit, yields $4 in economic benefits -- and as the region grows, so must our transportation infrastructure.
