ANNANDALE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials battled a house fire on Sunday in Annandale, Va.
Firefighters say they encountered heavy smoke coming from the basement of a two-story home located at 6606 Reserves Hill Court. The fire was under control in 15 minutes, says fire officials.
According to fire officials, the bulk of the fire was in the mechanical room in the basement, and had spread to the ceiling and first floor subfloor.
Fire officials say the home had working smoke alarms; however, an occupant discovered the fire prior to alarms sounding and all 10 people escaped.
Officials say the damage is estimated at $60,000, and that four adults and six children have been displaced.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental caused by an unidentified electrical event in the basement.
