WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The countdown to sequestration is on with the March 1st deadline now just four days away.

On Sunday, the White House released its state-by-state impact of just what they say those across-the-board spending cuts will mean.

Here's a look at how those cuts could affect the people in our area:

In DC, teachers and schools will lose $500,000 in funding for primary and secondary education. Close to $1 million will be cut from education for children with disabilities. Some 13,000 civilian Department of Defense employees will be furloughed and the DC Department of Health will lose about $300,000.

In Virginia, teachers and schools will lose $14 million in funding for primary and secondary education. About ninety thousand civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed, and the Virginia Department of Health would lose more than $300,000.

In Maryland, $14 million would be cut for primary and secondary education. Forty-six-thousand civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed, and the state's Department of Public Health would lose more than $500,000.

If sequestration does occur it will be up to the administration as to where to cut the budget.
