FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- Six adults are without a home after a fire on Sunday afternoon near George Mason Park, say Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials.

Fire officials say a passing driver saw the fire at a home in the 9600 block of Braddock Road shortly after noon and called 911. The driver then alerted the residents, who made it out safely, say fire officials.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to the home reported heavy dark smoke and fire coming from the left side and carport area, say fire officials.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes, according to fire officials.

According to officials, there were no working smoke alarms at the home.

The damage from the fire is estimated at $175,000, say officials. The damage includes two vehicles in the driveway near the carport.

Fire investigators say the fire was accidental and started in the attached carport area. The specific cause of the fire is undetermined but there was some evidence of a damaged power strip and a junction box, according to fire officials.

Fire officials say Red Cross support was offered to the residents but declined.
