WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A local family's desperate search for a loved one has gone on for four agonizing years.

Forty-seven-year-old Pamela Butler, an Environmental Protection Agency analyst, disappeared around Valentine's Day in 2009.

She was last seen at her home on 4th and Oglethorpe in Northwest DC.

With each passing year the hope in finding 47-year-old Pam Butler grows dim.

Derrick Butler, brother, "They say time heals everything, but it doesn't heal this."

On a blistering cold day, family and friends continue to gather in front of Pamela's former home, each year, and pray for answers.

Thelma Butler, "I wonder where, when or why someone did this to her."

Pam's mother never asks 'who.'

Police have long suspected Pam's ex-boyfriend but there has never been enough evidence to charge him.

Her family says he had backed out of taking a lie detector test.

The home has since undergone a makeover and has a new homeowner. Technically, Pam's disappearance is considered a missing person's case but D.C. Police have long believed that Pam was probably murdered.

Pam had an extensive surveillance camera system, which captured her on the night of February 12. She picked up her mail, went inside and hasn't been seen since.

Her brother claims cameras also capture her ex on video.

"he's seen going in after her."

Another mother haunted by her daughter's disappearance came to the candlelight vigil, crying out for answers.

Valencia Harris, "someone knows what happened to our children. Someone knows."

24-year-old Unique Harris was snatched from her Southeast home on Hartford Street on October 9, 2010, while her two young sons were sleeping in the next room.

They are two mothers agonizing over their daughters who seemed to have simply vanished.

Thelma Butler, "I try to hold on. I pray every day."

If you have any information about these two cases call D.C. Police at 202-727-9099.
