COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA)-- Mourners filled the Memorial Chapel on the University of Maryland campus in College Park to remember two of their students killed in a murder-suicide, and pray for the speedy recovery of a third.
Although, the murder-suicide happened off campus the shock waves were felt throughout the entire University of Maryland community.
There was prayer, remembrance, and singing at the memorial. Many are left with heavy hearts trying to make sense of the tragedy that has rocked their campus.
Although no one was mentioned by name, the thoughts included prayer for the shooter 23-year old Dayvon Green, and his roommate turned murder victim 22-year old Stephen Rane.
University of Maryland president Dr. Wallace Loh said, "Tonight each of us seeks to ease our pain. How can we make sense of an act so utterly senseless, especially when it comes from one of our own?"
The third students involved in the shooting is said to be recovering in a hospital and is expected to survive. Investigators have not released his identity at the time of this report.
UMD officials are vowing to offer counseling to any student who seeks it.
