PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA) -- A man is in critical condition after a CSX train collided with a car as it attempted to cross the railroad on Brandywine Road, officials say.
Prince George's County Fire Department says the accident took place Wednesday evening near Ice Plant Road when the driver of a 2001 Ford Mustang attempted to cross the railroad tracks as the lights were flashing red.
The 25-year-old male was ejected from the car and suffered severe head trauma, Prince George's County Police said. He was flown to the trauma center with life-threatening injures.
He is in critical condition in an area hospital.
The fire department spokesperson said the railroad crossing is not protected with crossing-arms to protect oncoming traffic from trains.
